Frédérique Constant Gives Time to the Girls

The ladies are getting more attention these days and that’s good news. The brands are realizing that women (and girls) aren’t afraid to lift up the proverbial hood and admire all those working parts of a movement. A watch isn’t just a pretty bauble to put on your wrist that happens to tell time—though that element isn’t lost on women. Hence, the different designs from the men.

Several companies are letting girls in on the fun too,  creating watches specifically for the fairer sex that aren’t clothing changes from the male versions. Those companies include Breguet with the Reine de Naples collection; Girard-Perregaux and the Cat’s Eye collection; and Patek Philippe that put out their new in-house chrono in the Ladies First 7071 model.

Frédérique Constant understands the concept and is presenting girls 12-16 a special watch of their own in the Junior Ladies Collection after finding success with the Junior collection designed for boys. Although the watches will be in quartz, they will introduce young girls to the magic of wearing a watch, and Frédérique Constant hopes it will be a gateway to other pieces as they graduate onwards from leotards and ballet shoes into adulthood.

There will be three options, the designs resembling the women’s Delight timepiece. In a case of 26mm, the models come in a choice of: Roman numerals surrounding a guilloché natural mother-of-pearl dial center; or, applied steel indexes and diamonds around a hearts guilloché pattern on a natural mother-of-pearl dial center for the other two versions. The look is topped off by either a steel bracelet or selection of satin colored straps.

Another nice detail is that Frédérique Constant will allow you to engrave a personal message on the back of the case commemorating a birthday, graduation, communion or any occasion of your choice.

I applaud Frédérique Constant for turning attention to girls, who also appreciate having a nice watch like their young male counterparts. Now, just as the boys’ models get mechanical movements, let’s see some for the girls too.

Another attractive feature is the buy-in. It won’t break Mom and Dad’s bank.

Retail priced at: $695.00 to $795.00

Ladies Watch Gift Guide 2010

The Christmas season is upon us again. If you’re anything like me, you’ve procrastinated a bit too long and now are in a bit of a tizzy wondering how you are going to make sure the stocking is stuffed and Santa covers everybody on your list. I won’t lie to you, it’s not going to be a jingle bell  ride in a one horse open sleigh as you move through the crowds. The image that comes to mind is a salmon trying to push its way upstream–but then I’ve ruined my Christmas metaphor, haven’t I?

Still, if you’re a salmon with a destination in mind (i.e. you know what presents you need to get), then it is much easier to take the trip. With that in mind, I’ve made some recommendations on Crunch Gear for women’s watches in all price ranges. You can jump on Rudolph and visit over here.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Frederique Constant Lights One Up for Cohiba

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes it isn’t. With this particular cigar you receive a special Frédérique Constant limited edition watch. That’s impetus enough for me! Particularly because I do enjoy a fine cigar on occasion.

There are certain things that just seem to go together, such as apple pie and ice cream, a flamboyant hat and the Kentucky Derby, and Brad and Angelina. In the horologic world, cars and watches are a natural fit from a symbolic and mechanical perspective. Over the years, brands have aligned themselves with cars, car events and racecar drivers, creating limited [Read more...]
